With a menu as extensive as theirs, choosing a soup at The Original Soup Kitchen can be a delightful dilemma. However, some standouts have earned their place as customer favorites. For a classic and comforting choice, the Chicken Noodle is a staple, filled with tender chicken, noodles, and a savory broth. The Chicken & Wild Rice is another excellent choice for a hearty, filling meal.
If you're looking to explore the restaurant's more indulgent side, the Seafood Soups are a must-try. The Lobster Bisque, a fan favorite, is a rich and creamy delight, often noted for being well worth the price. The New England Clam Chowder is another popular choice, a classic done right with a rich, hearty flavor. For those who enjoy a bit of spice, the Jambalaya is a fantastic, flavorful option with a kick.
Vegetarians have plenty of excellent choices as well. The Butternut Squash soup is a creamy and satisfying seasonal option, while the Lentil and Vegetarian Chili are both packed with flavor and are incredibly filling. The Tomato Basil is a great go-to for a simple, fresh-tasting soup.
Beyond the soups, the menu also features a popular Lobster Roll Sandwich for a special treat. And don't forget the signature touch that makes every order special: a piece of bread, a fruit, and a chocolate are included with every soup, making it feel like a thoughtfully prepared care package.
While some visitors may find the prices a little high for soup alone, what you're really paying for is a unique, high-quality meal and a memorable New York experience. The portions are generous, the flavors are complex, and the novelty of dining at such a famous location makes it all worthwhile.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The Original Soup Kitchen also known as the Soup Nazi from the Seinfeld series. Good selection of soups daily. The soups are pretty good but definitely not the best I've had. And no, the owner was not there to scrowl at the customers. And there was not a line. The staff were friendly.
July 23 · Jenny RameshDelicious as expected. Ordered the lobster bisque and it was definitely pleasant. A liiittle expensive for the size considering it’s literally just soup; but it’s NYC and of course you’re paying for the novelty of the brand. I definitely can’t complain. Maybe next time I’ll get yelled at and that will suddenly make it worth the fuss 😂
May 31 · Lee SterlingI love coming here for my lobster bisque and then I occasionally like to enjoy the lobster roll. The soup is hearty warm and very satisfying. The lobster roll is quick and pretty good
April 21 · Nalene FI got a large lobster bisque today. It’s freezing cold and windy today. I didn’t want my pup to get cold so I just ate it on the move. The lobster bisque was so creamy and rich. It has chopped up celery, cubed potatoes, and shredded carrots in it, along with pieces of lobster and fish. It was simply delicious. The bread it came with was also nice and fresh. It even came with an apple, which I did not expect. It not only warmed my stomach, but also my heart. It was a great soup kitchen and I’ll definitely come back again and try the other soups.
November 23 · Bradley CI had lobster 🦞 soup 🍲 that comes with bread 🍞 and chocolate 🍫. It's really, really good soup, comes with lots of little chunks of lobster. I do recommend 💯% thank you.
