I visited Torishin in April 2025 and had such a memorable experience! From the moment I stepped inside, the staff made me feel so welcomed and at ease - I instantly knew I was going to have a good time. I chose the Omakase option, which was a perfect way to try a range of dishes even though I'm not the most adventurous eater. The staff were incredibly thoughtful, checking in with my friend and me ahead of our meal to see if we preferred certain cuts of meat so they could tailor the experience to our individual tastes.Throughout the meal, our server was attentive and knowledgeable, always nearby to answer questions and make sure we were comfortable and enjoying everything. Watching the chef prepare each course right in front of us made the atmosphere even more special and added to the night! As for the food itself - it was absolutely incredible. My favorite dishes were their popular chicken "scallops," which were so juicy and flavorful, and the gindara fish, which was perfectly flaky and delicious.Between the warm service, the amazing food, and the lively, welcoming atmosphere, Torishin truly gave me a night to remember. I can't wait to come back! - Kira Bernhard

Torishin Introduce

Introduction / Overview

In a city as culinarily rich as New York, standing out requires a level of artistry and dedication that few can achieve. Torishin, a celebrated Japanese restaurant located in the heart of Midtown, has not only achieved this but has also earned a prestigious reputation for its unparalleled focus on yakitori. This isn't your average skewer joint; Torishin is a destination for an elevated and deeply authentic dining experience, centered around the art of grilling chicken over binchotan charcoal. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of cozy, trendy, and upscale, creating an intimate setting where every detail is meticulously considered. The concept revolves around the Omakase, or "chef's choice," a personalized culinary journey where the chef selects and prepares a series of the finest chicken skewers and other dishes. This highly personal approach, as highlighted in customer reviews, makes the dining experience both unique and memorable. Torishin is more than just a place to eat; it's a place to experience the subtle nuances and incredible flavors that come from a single-minded focus on a single ingredient. The restaurant is a popular choice for dinner and is particularly well-suited for solo diners who can appreciate the interaction with the chef at the counter. The offerings are not just limited to chicken; the menu also features a selection of appetizers, vegetables, and other meats, all prepared with the same level of care and expertise. For those seeking a special night out, a pre-theater meal, or simply an extraordinary dinner, Torishin provides a sophisticated and deeply satisfying experience that feels both traditional and modern, making it a true gem in the New York dining scene.

What is worth choosing

Choosing Torishin is an investment in a truly exceptional and memorable dining experience, and what makes it so worthwhile is its unique and uncompromising approach to Japanese cuisine. While New York has countless Japanese restaurants, Torishin stands apart by specializing in yakitori with an almost obsessive level of perfection. The core of the experience is the Omakase, which is not just a tasting menu but a personal journey guided by the chef. As customer reviews attest, the chefs are not only masters of their craft but are also knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to tailor the experience to individual tastes. This level of personalized service creates a connection that is rare in a city of millions. The food itself is the star of the show; the skewers are cooked to perfection over high-quality charcoal, resulting in incredibly juicy, flavorful, and perfectly-charred pieces of meat. The menu showcases not just the standard cuts but also more unique and adventurous parts of the chicken, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the ingredient. The "chicken 'scallops'" and "gindara fish" highlighted in a review are perfect examples of the exquisite quality of the dishes. The upscale yet cozy atmosphere is another key reason to choose Torishin. It feels intimate and special, making it ideal for a birthday or other celebratory event, yet the counter seating offers a lively and engaging experience for anyone who wants to watch the culinary magic unfold. The inclusion of a pre-theater menu is a thoughtful touch for its location, providing a fantastic option for a high-quality meal before a show. Finally, the fact that they offer halal options is a significant benefit, making this refined dining experience accessible to a wider community. For its unparalleled quality, personalized service, and distinct focus on the art of yakitori, Torishin is not just a restaurant to visit, but a destination to savor and remember.
