If you're heading to A Salt & Battery for the first time, you'll want to choose a dish that truly represents their authentic British fare. The most popular and iconic choice is the Cod and Chips. The cod is a classic option, known for its mild flavor and flaky texture, and it's expertly fried in the restaurant's signature light and crispy batter. Pairing it with a generous portion of their proper chips is the only way to get the full experience. While some have found the chips to be a bit bland, they are the ideal vehicle for their homemade tartar sauce or a splash of malt vinegar, which are essential accompaniments.
For those who prefer a more robust fish, the Haddock is highly recommended. It is often referred to as the "king of fish" by the business and is celebrated for its firmer texture and more pronounced flavor. It is a fantastic alternative to the cod and is equally well-suited to the light batter and crisp frying. The Battered Sausage is another must-try for a true taste of British comfort food. It's a simple yet satisfying item that showcases their frying technique beyond just fish.
And for dessert, the Deep Fried Mars Bar is an iconic and unique offering that you won't find at many other places in the city. While it might sound unusual, the melted chocolate and caramel inside a crispy, golden batter is a truly decadent and memorable treat. It's an essential part of the experience for anyone looking to try something different. To round out the meal, be sure to try one of the British sodas like Irn Bru or Tango Orange, which provide an extra layer of authenticity to your dining experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The batter was crispy and well cooked. Fish itself tasted great and was very tender. The tartar sauce was amazing as well. The chips (fries) were okay definitely need salt but were perfectly cooked. Would come here again and they had a lunch special which was decently priced.
June 13 · Jordan ParedesI love that this place is in a row of British shops. It’s nice that they have a bench outside too because the indoor seating is minimal—definitely more of a to-go place. The food was really good and it was exactly like you’d get it in the UK, but the prices are fairly steep. The portions are good and my dad and I were able to split a large fish (cod) and chips but it was still like over $35. The cashier was actually British though so that’s always an auspicious sign!
March 25 · Beatrice EvansOrdered the lunch special which includes regular haddock, fries, and bottled water. The haddock was the smallest I have had there, maybe 4” by 5”, thin at the front end, and very thin at the tail end such that the last half inch was so thin as to be indistinguishable from the batter. Chips were plentiful, generally small, and not very crispy. I requested hot sauce for the fries and rather than bring given the Cholula bottle at the front counter, that I was told was “For us,” and which I had used during a previous visit, I was given a small cup poured from an almost empty generic quart bottle in the back. I certainly did not get my money’s ($16.60) worth. The piece of haddock should have been used for their fish bites, not as a filet for lunch.
July 11 · Robert DrakeThe picture shown is the small plate, such a big portion, and I did get the haddock over the cod, with chips. The tartar sauce has a little bit of a Brown mustard taste to it. It’s counter seating with about seven seats, if you go out a busy time, there won’t be any word to sit. So delicious and I must try!
May 22 · Sarah LizA Salt & Battery was just okay. The fish had a nice crispy coating but lacked seasoning, so it felt a bit bland. The garlic sauce was the highlight, adding much-needed flavor. Their $16 lunch combo (fish, chips, and water) is a decent deal, but overall, the food didn’t stand out. It’s an alright spot if you’re in the mood for fish and chips, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
