Bar Tizio Introduce
In the ever-evolving dining scene of New York City, new spots are constantly emerging to capture the attention of discerning palates. Bar Tizio, a recent addition to the West Village, is quickly establishing itself as a sophisticated yet inviting destination. As a wine and cocktail bar from renowned Chef Jonathan Waxman, it promises an elevated experience that focuses on a curated beverage program and seasonal, simple fare. This is not a place for loud, crowded nights, but rather an intimate and cozy setting that invites conversation and relaxation. With its stylish interiors and candlelit tables, Bar Tizio channels a sense of understated elegance, making it an ideal spot for a date night or a quiet dinner with friends.
Bar Tizio's concept is built around its superb drink selection, which features nearly 30 wines by the glass and a full bar with classic cocktails. The ambiance is designed to complement this focus, with an atmosphere that is described as "intimate" and "elegant." While some may find the decor basic, others see it as a clean, confident backdrop that lets the food and drink shine. The menu is a thoughtful collection of small plates and larger dishes that lean into French and Italian cuisine, a departure from some of the more casual dining options in the area. This allows Bar Tizio to offer something a little different, blending the feel of a trattoria with the refined quality of a destination bar. It's a place where the knowledgeable staff, like the manager Bruce, can truly elevate the experience with their passion and expertise, guiding guests through the menu and making them feel genuinely special.
The food, while not the primary focus for every guest, is a solid accompaniment to the drinks. Dishes like the tuna tartare, pasta, and short ribs are designed to be enjoyed in a sharing-style format or as a full meal. The restaurant's commitment to attentive and flexible service, which some reviewers have called "excellent," is a major draw. For those seeking a place with a great wine list, expertly made cocktails, and a staff that goes above and beyond, Bar Tizio is a top contender. It is a new spot, but one that is already building a reputation for being a great place to spend a memorable evening.
Bar Tizio is located at 107 Horatio St, New York, NY 10014, USA. This places it in a prime location in the West Village, just a few doors down from its famed sibling restaurant, Barbuto. This area is a culinary hotspot, known for its trendy restaurants and charming, cobblestone streets. The location is easily accessible via public transportation, with the A, C, E, and L trains at the 14th Street-Eighth Avenue station just a short walk away. The area is also served by several buses and is easily reached by foot from other parts of the West Village and the Meatpacking District. Choosing Bar Tizio is about prioritizing a high-quality experience centered on excellent drinks and superb service. While some guests have had mixed feelings about the food's pricing and flavor, the overall consensus is that the restaurant's strength lies in its bar and its staff. One reviewer noted that if you "come here for the wine and service, you will love this place." The wine selection, with its many options by the glass, allows for a journey of discovery. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Could be because this spot is relatively new, but service was excellent. Servers were attentive, flexible, kind and elevated the experience. The candles are a nice touch and the wine selection is great but the atmosphere is pretty basic. The food and prices.... I've eaten at many resturants from michelin star to your basic take out and it's the first time I've had to pay for the house bread or peanuts. Gave the impression that the spot lacked a level of confidence and saught to charge at every corner. I never mind paying for good food, but $8 for peanuts from a jar? Salad was very good but the pasta- while not bad at all, lacked some dimension and was a tad too cheesy for my taste. If you come here for the wine and service, you will love this place. The food- its not bad but there are better spots in the area. Above average at a 3.5
July 18 · Josee GratiaWe went to bar tizio for the first time tonight and we were extremely impressed. We had Alex and Jaime as our servers and they did such a great job! Alex explained the menu so well and Jaime was on top of our table making sure we had everything we needed. Where the experience really took a turn was when we were lucky enough to meet the manager Bruce! His energy, knowledge and passion for every item on the menu was very refreshing. Bruce came over a few times to make sure that we were ok. feeling so special really took the dinner to the next level. I will be coming back because of him for sure!
June 26 · Jordan UfferLoved this place! Chose it because of the location to an event and the reviews. Did not disappoint. Our entire team loved everything! Food and service fantastic.
July 15 · Holly CannonWe really enjoyed the food. It was not really Italian but it was fantastic. It’s a cute place with friendly service and I liked that the location was on a quiet street. I see myself going back.
May 29 · Sa ShaReally impressed - we are longtime Barbuto fans and wanted to try Bar Tizio - food, service and vibe all 10/10.Our group of six basically ate the entire menu and there wasn’t a miss with standouts being the Chicken Milanese and the Lobster Pizza. Super interesting and deep wine list. We will be back.
