Caviar Kaspia at The Mark Reviews
Full disclosure...I was a guest at the Clam Shack outside of Caviar Kaspia. First Lobster roll of the season. Outdoor seating marvelous. We.made a ressie but maybe you can walk in. See the dessert. I dont know what it was other than fabulous.
July 07 · LAS2Threw the Bagel Away — Worst Place in NYCPlease read other low rated reviews — I wish I did it earlier. We pre-ordered their signature caviar bagels for pick-up, hoping to enjoy them outside on a nice June day with coffee or tea from a nearby café. Unfortunately, it started to rain, and we asked — very politely — if we could eat inside the restaurant instead. We were happy to order drinks. The room was completely empty. Still, the hostess had to “check” if it was allowed. I stood there awkwardly as the staff quietly debated my request, with one woman — seemingly a manager — finally saying: “You can only stay if you order additional food. Drinks don’t count.”I explained we hadn’t even seen the bagel yet and didn’t know if we’d want more food. The answer? A shrug. No flexibility. No warmth. No hospitality. It was essentially: “Not our problem — figure it out yourself.”Mind you, it was pouring outside. Every nearby café was packed. This place was empty. Still, they couldn’t let us sit down for 15 minutes with our $35 bagels. And now, the food:– A dry bun.– The cheapest cream cheese imaginable.– Caviar that was smashed into a sad, muddy paste — not individual pearls, not fresh, with an off smell. The caviar had no taste - the amount is so small, you can’t taste it. When I tried it separately, it was clearly low quality and possibly old.I had no trouble throwing the whole thing in the trash — because self-respect is worth more than an overpriced bagel. Conclusion:Poor service. No flexibility. Terrible food.A luxury concept with zero soul or execution.Easily the worst place I’ve visited in New York.
June 14 · Kristina ZhegunovaA delightful experience, and well crafted decedent dishes. I really enjoyed it and will definitely be back but I did have the urge to find that 1 missing point in each dish, such as, the salmon carpaccio was cut too thick for my experience, the tuna tartar needed something with a bite, and there was nothing to put them on...no cracker, potato slice, chip...nothing.. and there was way too much butter in the baked potatoes, which overpowered caviar... small things, but they would have made a positive difference. The service was impeccable, the room is well dressed, and the people watching did not disappoint.
March 14 · Michael and Tammy BosworthExtravagant Caviar bar and restaurant with an array of dishes that highlight the delicacy but at the expense of over the moon pricing. The table bread, however, might be the best loaf of wheat I have had in my entire life. $40-90 a dish. 3.5/5 stars as a dinner spot.
June 14 · Vinay SaggarDisclaimer: the review is for the limited edition caviar bagel only. Not applicable to the menu things. My friend forwarded me a caviar bagel reservation and I was very curious at the combo. I picked it up and ate it right away.First of all, when I get a bagel, I expect to eat a bagel. This poppy bagel is certainly not baked fresh at the pick up: maybe fresh at 9AM, but definitely not at 11:30AM. It is not even roasted prior to pick up. It is roasted/baked hours ago and dried out (maybe for the purpose of putting caviar in). The whole bagel is is hard as a baguette gets and is cold and not chewy at all. Why is this information important? Because it interefered with the texture of the caviar and the cream cheese schmear significantly.Because the poppy bagel is hard as a rock, the caviar got smashed between bricks into cream cheese and resulted in two thing: 1) the 60% of the caviars popped and got squeezed and were lost on the wrapping papers instead on my tongue and 2) the caviar watered down the schmear so much that the supposedly creamy schmear tasted like milk-powder mixed with salty ocean water. The flavor of the schmear paired with caviar is not bad. The slight salinity and the mild fishy flavor of the kaspia caviar doesn’t overpower the bagel (but considering the amount, I doubt it is 30g, or most of them went on paper). When I intentionally had a single bite of the caviar, the flavor became obvious and it is too-notch quality. For schmear, I like the milky flavor, surprisingly, (not creamy, but milky), but I wasn't sure whether it was supposedly to taste this way or it got watered down by caviar juice and blended with salinity.Interesting, but for the bagel, definitely not a good bagel. In fact, maybe they should have called it caviar baguette instead. The service is great. The gals at the counter were super warm and welcoming. The tables and the set up inside feels like Tiffany’s breakfast (not the movie, but the color scheme). I enjoyed the Russian dolls on the counter more than I enjoyed the bagel.
