It has established itself as a go-to place for classic halal street food, with its name reflecting the core of its menu: chicken and lamb served in various forms. The offerings are rooted in comfort food, providing a filling and satisfying option for lunch or dinner.
The menu at Chicken vs Lamb is centered around familiar and beloved dishes. The main event is the "Over Rice" and "Over Fries" options, where you can get chicken, lamb, or a mix of both. These dishes are a staple of New York's halal food scene, known for their generous portions and comforting flavors. The menu extends beyond these classics to include gyros, kebabs, and even a variety of salads for those seeking a lighter meal. The inclusion of items like Mozzarella Sticks and Onion Rings also adds a typical fast-food element to their offerings.

Despite some recent customer feedback about a decline in quality, Chicken vs Lamb still holds value for a specific segment of the New York community and is worth considering for several key reasons. The most prominent is its role as a convenient and reliable source of classic halal comfort food. For someone working at the hospital or living nearby and in need of a quick, familiar meal, the location is unbeatable. The "Over Rice" and "Over Fries" dishes, while having received some critical reviews lately, are a staple of the New York food scene, and for many, a quick, filling, and affordable meal is the primary objective. The extensive menu, which includes everything from chicken tenders and burgers to salads and gyros, ensures that there is a wide range of options to satisfy different cravings.
Another major advantage is the sheer convenience and accessibility of the restaurant. The availability of a free parking lot is a significant highlight in the Bronx, where parking can be a hassle. This makes it an easy choice for those traveling by car. The options for takeout and delivery also cater to the needs of a busy, modern lifestyle. For hospital staff, the late-night food offering is a massive benefit, providing a quick meal option after a long shift when most other places are closed. This catering to a specific, high-need clientele makes the restaurant a practical and valuable resource.
While the negative reviews about food quality and portion sizes are a serious concern, it is important to remember that they represent a snapshot in time and can be influenced by various factors. The fact that the restaurant has been in business and has a loyal following for a long time suggests that it has, for the most part, provided a good service. It is a place that many people have relied on for years. The dual options of chicken and lamb, along with other items like falafel and fish, provide a variety that is not always available at a single fast-food location.
In conclusion, Chicken vs Lamb is worth choosing for its unbeatable convenience, classic halal menu, and location. It is a no-frills, straightforward eatery that fulfills a specific need for a quick, filling, and affordable meal in a high-traffic area. While it may not be the best choice for a fine dining experience, it is a reliable spot for a quick bite, particularly for those in the immediate vicinity.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1What happened to the beloved Chicken vs Lamb. Quality went downhill in couple of years. Last week lamb over rice was bad, tasteless and funky. Today ordered a burger. Bland. Dried processed patty. Totally flavorless. McDonald across the street is a lot better at half the price. Asked for red sauce on side, didn’t do it. I promise, that will be my last visit there.
May 06 · Motez PennyThese guys used to be so good,, now they CHEAP OUT on the meat, literally put 90% rice and salad and the taste is just not the same anymore. If you ask them to put extra meat because they barely put any to start with, they will charge you extra $2-3 while no other cart I’ve been to cheaps out on their portions like that. NOT WORTH IT ANYMORE!
August 07 · Hadi RajaFood is okay, but the day workers are rude, unprofessional, and just plain nasty. I do not recommend this location for that very reason. They do not give you the order the way you asked for it, and when you tell them that's not what you asked for, they come out and call you dumb. Three times I received the order the way I did not ask for, the first 2 times I just left and took it, but the 3rd time I was not going to take something I didn't order. I rather starve to death than ever buy from here again. I heard from employees at the hospital that this has also happened to them, so obviously, word of mouth of the bad service this location gives is starting to get around. Again, I do not recommend this location at all.
June 26 · manny clVery good food. Food was delicious and fresh. I got the chicken and lamb with rice combo, chicken wings and tenders combo with the fries. The wings are better then the tenders. The combo platter was good and there hot sauce is very hot. I love the fact they have small sauce containers in case you want the sauce on the side or for dipping.
September 25 · Jeannette CodringtonLove this place. Every order is made to order. Located by the hospital so you will get alot of people ordering. I usually call ahead of time. Food is always delicious and they give u a large portion of food. Prices went up from 8 to 11 but still cheapest in the Bronx.
