Dumpling Xi 喜家德水饺 Introduce
New York City's culinary landscape is a melting pot of global flavors, and finding truly authentic cuisine can feel like a treasure hunt. For lovers of Chinese food, and particularly those with a passion for dumplings, a new and exciting destination has arrived in the East Village: Dumpling Xi (喜家德水饺). This isn't just another dumpling spot; it’s the highly anticipated Manhattan outpost of a renowned Chinese chain, famous for its unwavering commitment to quality and freshness. Located on a bustling corner of 4th Avenue, Dumpling Xi brings a taste of genuine, home-style dumplings to the heart of the city.
What sets Dumpling Xi apart from the crowd is its core philosophy: "xiàn bāo xiàn zhǔ," which translates to "freshly wrapped, freshly boiled." This is a promise you can see in action, as a team of skilled staff meticulously hand-wraps each dumpling right behind the counter. This dedication to craftsmanship ensures that every dumpling served is a burst of fresh flavor, with a perfect, slightly chewy dough and juicy, savory filling. It's a level of freshness that elevates the entire dining experience, making you feel as though you've stepped into a traditional Chinese kitchen.
The menu, while focused on its namesake specialty, offers a compelling variety of options. The dumplings are the main event, available both steamed and pan-fried to crispy perfection. The Shrimp, Fish Roe, and Pork Dumplings are a popular choice, and for good reason—each one contains a whole, plump shrimp. Another standout is the Celery and Pork Dumplings, which provide a delightful, aromatic crunch. For those who enjoy a spicier kick, the fried dumplings offer an extra layer of texture and flavor.
Beyond the dumplings, Dumpling Xi's menu features other comforting and unique dishes. The Mini-Hot Pots are perfect for a satisfying, individual meal. You can choose from options like the hearty Neck Bone Combo Pot or the flavorful Chicken Leg Combo Pot, both available in spicy and non-spicy versions. These pots are full of tender meat, fresh vegetables, and savory broth, offering a complete and nourishing experience. To round out your meal, the appetizers provide a refreshing counterpoint. The Tossed Lotus Root-Shaped Noodles With Cucumbers and Stewed Neck Bone are particularly popular and highly recommended by regulars.
The atmosphere inside Dumpling Xi is clean, modern, and efficient. The seating is comfortable and spacious, allowing for a relaxed dine-in experience. While the focus is on fast, fresh food, the environment encourages you to take a moment to savor your meal. The staff is friendly and helpful, ready to assist with recommendations or answer any questions you might have about the dishes. The open-kitchen concept, where you can watch the dumplings being made, adds to the transparency and a sense of trust in the quality of the food.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Okay, confession time: I was skeptical. Can a famous Chinese dumpling chain really translate its magic to Manhattan? Let me tell you, Dumpling Xi absolutely does. Walking in felt familiar – it's the real deal, the same brand I know from back in China, and crucially, the taste is spot on.First things first: forget those sad, frozen dumplings you get elsewhere. The freshness here is next level. You can literally see the team making them to order behind the counter. That "xiàn bāo xiàn zhǔ" (freshly wrapped, freshly boiled) promise isn't just a slogan – it's their whole vibe. You taste it in every bite. The dough has that perfect slight chew, and the fillings burst with flavor because they haven't been sitting in a freezer for months. My go-to is always the Shrimp & Veggie (虾三鲜). And folks, they aren't messing around – there's a whole, plump shrimp right there in the middle of each one! Seriously satisfying. But my personal favorite has to be the Fish Roe Dumplings (鱼籽水饺). That unique pop of briny flavor mixed with the juicy filling? Heavenly. If you like a kick, don't sleep on the Spicy & Sour Fish Fillet (酸辣鱼片). It's got that great balance – tangy, spicy, and the fish was super tender. Honestly, the quality across the board is just excellent.Beyond the dumplings (which are obviously the star), the vibe is clean and efficient, and the staff were friendly and helpful when I asked for recommendations. Watching them hand-wrap everything is kinda mesmerizing too!Bottom Line: If you're craving authentic, high-quality, truly fresh Chinese dumplings right in the heart of NYC, Dumpling Xi is the place. It delivers exactly what the brand is famous for in China. No shortcuts, just delicious, honest food. I'm thrilled they're here and I'll definitely be back soon – that Fish Roe craving is already hitting me again!Highly recommend!
June 24 · Bella-NEWMy new favorite dumpling spot in the East Village. Their steam dumplings are pillow-y soft and fried dumplings are perfectly crispy. Loved their braised chicken leg hot bowl, so tasty and tender. Great prices too for so many in-house, freshly made dumplings. Comfortable, spacious seating. Friendly service.
August 08 · Michelle2ShopStumbled upon this because of my friend and we decided to check it out. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. All the dishes were clean and well looked after.Food didn’t take too long since it wasn’t busy, but we chose a spicy & sour broth with fish fillet. Plus a small bowl of rice and pork dumplings. I was pleasantly impressed with the spicy & sour soup, it had such a good flavor. The soup wasn’t too spicy but the sour flavor reminded me of lime, which I’m personally accustomed to. I loved the veggies and the bit of noodles it had. I definitely would’ve loved more noodles. Dumplings were freshly made and hot, but it was just as delicious.I would love to come back and try their chicken broth soup!
August 10 · MelodyGreat food! and even better service...walked in with a party of 12, 30 minutes before close, and they were so pleasant and helpful. Had the Spicy Neck Bone Combo Pot and Celery Dumplings - it was amazing. Recommend you come!
August 09 · Precious Pittmanthese dumplings were incredible—each one was perfectly folded with care and filled with rich, flavorful broth.
