★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I visited Wegmans' new Japanese fusion restaurant for their opening night, arriving for the first seating at 5:30pm. I went in with high expectations and was genuinely impressed by the overall experience.Would I return? Absolutely yes. My intent to recommend is high, especially for special occasions or serious food enthusiasts. With some minor refinements, this restaurant could be on track for a Michelin star, with service and presentation already at a 10/10 level. From the moment we were seated, the service was truly exceptional. Daniel, our knowledgeable server/sommelier, guided us through our evening with expertise and warmth, while the General Manager Nick went above and beyond by personally visiting our table multiple times throughout our meal. When we mentioned wanting to experience signature dishes beyond traditional sushi offerings, Nick thoughtfully curated a personalized tasting menu featuring their most unique creations. This level of attention and customization made our first visit feel special and demonstrated the staff's genuine commitment to creating a memorable dining experience despite it being their opening night. We decided to share everything to sample more of their offerings, which worked perfectly despite the smaller portion sizes. The seared hokkaido scallop with shredded truffles was outstanding - it literally melted in my mouth, especially with the added uni on top. A bit pricy.. was it worth it.. yes...The half lobster with ginger tarragon butter and lime dashi was expertly prepared, with the meat removed and placed back in its shell, making it incredibly easy to eat with chopsticks without any work required. The Chilean seabass wrapped in cedar wood with yuzu miso marinade was the absolute highlight of our meal. Incredibly soft with perfect flavor balance - creamy, savory with a hint of sweetness. We also ordered the tuna tataki with sweet onion and maple-soy dressing, which was slightly disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber - it tasted like frozen Ahi tuna, rather than a bluefin species... this dish was very flavorful though and could greatly benefit from a higher quality tuna. The koji marinated cauliflower with shiso chimichurri and miso walnuts was acceptable but needed improvement - it was slightly undercooked and would benefit from blanching before baking. Our meal ended on a high note with handmade mochi for dessert, which featured a beautiful presentation, soft texture, and deliciously creamy filling. The restaurant features an open kitchen sushi bar concept with a drink bar, though it's not an omakase experience where you order directly from the chef. The ambiance has potential but needs refinement - the lighting was too bright for dinner service, especially at opening time. More targeted lighting to highlight the beautiful dishes would enhance the dining experience and create a more intimate atmosphere. This is definitely a pricey dining experience, but the quality of most dishes justifies the cost. The combination of excellent service, stunning presentation, and exceptional food makes it a standout addition to NYC!
April 30 · Franklin ReitzasExcellent food and service. For asian cuisine it matches the nyc quality and i thought the location is cool too. The wait staff was very good at accommodating allergies and had spot on dish recommendation. Definitely get a reservation, I could see this place getting popular quick.
August 22 · James DistinMy mom has been wanting to try Wegmans next door for a minute. The interior in here is really nice. I like the green seats and the greenery. The truffle taco piece of sushi is really good. It has a rich truffle and umami flavor. I’m glad I got this for a starter. The skewers were seasoned well. You get a mix of meat and vegetables. It was quality meat. Tender and soft. The eggplant has a nice texture. I just wish it had a better hit of the sweet sauce. The steak was amazing. Might be my favorite dish. Not a big fan of the crab leg flavor wise. I don’t know if it was the yuzu.I enjoyed the presentation of the sweet potato. Amazing concept. I love how they bake half of it and fry the rest as chips. They could’ve mixed it up better.I tried 3 of the desserts. The cheesecake was interesting. It was good but I don’t know how to feel about the sesame crust it was like a cracker.I was recommended to try the semifreddo. Unique flavor on this one. I like the presentation on this one. They topped it with gold. The mochi was my favorite it comes from San Francisco and it may be the best 9’e I’ve ever had. It doesn’t taste like the typical store bought mochi. The service here is really good. They were attentive and took care of us. Plus the food comes out fast.Expect to pay $$$ but small portions. It’s definitely an experience here and I was satisfied.
July 17 · Jeffrey GomezWas blown away by the experience of dining at Next Door. I’m already a fan of the sushi counter within Wegman’s and had high expectations for the sushi here which were certainly met. But what I was not expecting was some of the best meat dishes I’ve had in the city! The beef carpaccio was our favorite, we ordered a second!! The Rib eye was also unbelievable, and the way they cut and serve it is so unique! The ambiance is lovely, feels like NYC high end dining, we were complementing the florals and the host let us know they are done by the florist in the grocery store—which has now become our fav place to pick up arrangements for our home and quick gifts. Overall a major addition the neighborhood, cost for quality was super affordable for NYC dining, we will be back often!
June 29 · Minali ChataniVery clean and nice environment. Food here was great! I am coming back for amazing fresh oysters that my wife loved so much.Edamame is free and was excellent. Fois gras was tasty and was served more than I thought.Sweet eggplant was fantastic.Yuzu marinated king crab leg was not bad. Not Japanese style though.Overall, these contemporary Japanese dishes were too Americanized still in terms of taste. The food comes out slowly with recommended 2-3 dishes per person.Service is pleasant. Recommend for try!
