Omakase Room by Shin Introduce
In a city overflowing with Japanese restaurants, Omakase Room by Shin stands out not just as a dining establishment, but as a destination for a truly unique and intimate culinary experience. This is a place where you don't just eat; you embark on a journey guided by the masterful hands of Chef Shin Yamaoka. Unlike a traditional restaurant where you order from a menu, an omakase experience, meaning "I leave it up to you," places complete trust in the chef to curate an unforgettable procession of dishes. Chef Shin's approach is both authentic and deeply personal, combining the freshest ingredients with a storytelling flair that turns each course into a memorable event. It's a perfect choice for those seeking a special evening, whether it's a romantic date night or a celebration of a milestone.
The core of Omakase Room by Shin's appeal is the sacred but never stuffy setting. With only a handful of seats arranged around a sushi counter, guests are put at eye level with the chef, creating a close and interactive dialogue. Chef Shin is often described as a storyteller with a knife, and a reviewer noted his "playful but never performative" patter, which adds a layer of fun and insight to the meal. This personalized interaction, combined with a menu that avoids "lazy tuna cop-outs" in favor of intentional and inimitable bites, makes for a truly high-end experience. From the melt-in-your-mouth buri to the fire-kissed nodoguro and glowing uni, each piece is a work of edible art, showcasing the chef's precision and passion. The establishment is a true testament to the idea that dining can be a form of art and delicate theater, where every detail is meticulously planned.

The restaurant is just a short walk from the 7th Avenue subway station, which serves the B, D, and E lines, and also close to the 5th Avenue-53rd Street station for the E and M lines. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My boyfriend wanted to celebrate his graduation with an omakase and we’re both happy we picked this one! Chef Shin’s nigiri is delicious, and combines the freshest ingredients from Japan. Very authentic. The staff kindly recommended the sake to pair with our meal and it was uniquely floral and rich. They also have a great Japanese whiskey selection! I was surprised to see this rare Hakushu bottle so we both had a glass at the end :)Highly recommend this place for date night or special occasion!
June 14 · Ashley SongAt Omakase Room by Shin, you don’t just eat—you embark. Slip behind the sliding door off an unassuming West Village street, and you’re whisked into a world of whisper-thin fish, wrist-flick precision, and wasabi with a purpose.Chef Shin glides through the evening like a storyteller with a knife, weaving morsels of myth and mouthfuls of history between courses. One moment, you’re savoring Hokkaido scallop crowned with caviar; the next, you’re hearing tales of Tokyo’s Tsukiji market or how a specific vinegar is aged in barrels older than the chef himself. His patter is playful but never performative—like sushi stand-up with a PhD in provenance. The sequence is splendidly paced. There’s buttery buri that melts into memory, fire-kissed nodoguro that makes you momentarily mute, and uni so bright it practically glows. Each bite feels intentional and inimitable—no repeats, no fillers, no lazy tuna cop-outs. Presentation leans toward minimalist magic: an amber slice of kinmedai resting on perfect pearlescent rice, brushed with tare like a final kiss. With only a handful of seats, the setting feels sacred but never stuffy. Guests lean in, clink sake, and swoon collectively. It’s dinner as dialogue, as design, as delicate theater.Yes, it’s a splurge. But for an evening of edible art, sharp wit, and unforgettable fish, Omakase Room by Shin slices straight to the soul.
July 12 · Adam RaiffeThis has been the most DELIGHTFUL Dinner experience of our lives!! Quick background story: Coming here was pure coincidence as my mother (Marisol) & I were on our way to another restaurant and as soon as we walked by the restaurant and I read Omakase, I got so excited and we both agreed we had to stop by and check out the menu. Without any previous reservation, we walked in and with so much kindness, Jo (the host/dining attendant) welcomed us, explained the concept of the restaurant and said we could join. As we were about to be seated Marisol immediately recognized the chef!! She remembered him from a previous sushi restaurant over 15 years ago. I was shocked as we are not locals and we only visit NYC once or maybe twice a year for work. We immediately shared this with the absolutely amazing master chef, Shin! He was so delighted to know we were a return customer but at his new restaurant. Shin & Jo made sure we had the most lovely dinner. I even got emotional and teary-eyed because my dream is to one day go to Japan and have a traditional Omakase experience, and Omakase Room by Shin definitely made me feel like I transported to Japan! It felt very authentic, each course had a story to tell by Shin. It was quite impressive seeing Shin cook, prepare each dish with so much love and precision, all while he kept his station immaculately clean and also socialized with us in between courses.Previous to this experience, Marisol had never been to an Omakase before and I’ve only gone once (nowhere near this experience!! Too modernized rather than traditional). We both left with so much joy and with full heart and belly! Aside from de exquisite meal, we had the best experience and it was all because of master chef Shin & Jo. We truly believe we were ment to stumble upon Omakase Room by Shin…No encounters are accidental, only destined. Until we meet again, friends! With love from Puerto Rico,Sisi & Marisol
August 06 · Marisol RodriguezWe came here for an anniversary and it did not disappoint!! I loved how intimate it felt and the hosts and chef took great care of us. We got the pairing and thought it was perfect with the menu. The fish was as fresh as it gets and the other dishes were incredibly flavorful. Will be back!
March 31 · Samantha ThomasGraciously kind service. I never got her name, but she truly made the night memorable. The chef was amazingly fun and cool, bringing a relaxed and chill vibe to the evening. The minimalistic atmosphere perfectly complemented the experience. Every piece of sushi was a hit! Fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully crafted. From start to finish, it was a marvelous adventure. I highly recommend it. For the quality, it’s definitely worth it.
