Street to Kitchen Introduce
Street to Kitchen is more than just a Thai restaurant; it's a culinary destination that has captured the attention and palates of Houston and beyond. Led by James Beard Award-winning Chef Benchawan Jabthong Painter, this establishment prides itself on serving authentic, "unapologetically Thai" food. It’s a place where the flavors are bold, the ingredients are fresh, and the experience is a true reflection of traditional Thai street food with a modern, Houston twist.
Having moved to a larger location in Houston's Second Ward, Street to Kitchen has continued to build on its reputation for excellence. Chef Painter and her husband, Graham, have created a space that feels both cozy and trendy, reminiscent of the hip neighborhoods of Bangkok. The restaurant's reputation for its fiery, authentic spice levels is a testament to its authenticity, and a point of pride for many of its loyal customers. While some diners have found the heat to be intense, those who appreciate true Thai spice find it to be perfectly on point.
This women-owned and Asian-owned business has become a beloved spot for both locals and tourists. It's the kind of place you go when you want a dining experience that is both dynamic and memorable. The combination of classic Thai dishes, innovative cocktails, and a great tea selection makes it a perfect place for a variety of occasions, whether it’s a date night, a gathering with friends, or a solo dining adventure. The recognition from the James Beard Foundation is a clear indicator of the exceptional quality and unique vision that Chef Painter brings to her kitchen.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We were really excited to try this restaurant, and it usually gets packed over the weekends. However, we managed to get a spot at the bar and the good thing was at the bar has full Services. We ordered a cocktails, which were great, and as far as the food was concerned, despite the fact that we requested mild to medium spice. It was crazy because our food was really really spicy, and this is coming from somebody who can handle spice. It felt like our food had way too much pepper, or something got lost in translation, and they thought that we wanted a lot more spice than what we had intended for our meal. Anyway, given the busyness at the restaurant, and how late we were and getting our food to begin with. We just kind of stuck with it. Overall, it’s cute. Little spot. Maybe we will give it a shot another time, but for now I’m taking a break from it.
August 23 · Shivika SingalAlways a pleasant time coming to eat here. Food is always good. Service is always great. I love it. Spice levels are on point. So be careful if you can handle that spice. Try to make a reservation in advance if you can usually pretty easy to do and do NOT skip on mango sticky rice.
August 10 · Victor SanchezIt was amazing! I can’t wait to go back! Our server was awesome! Great food! It is SPICY already! I would think twice on asking more spice than it already comes with.Mango sticky rice is good but not the best. But wow! Def will come back!
July 19 · Eliza DanielWow! I can’t believe it took me so long to visit! Everything was 10/10. Be ready to try Thai flavors like never before. Bold.. daring..spicy.. caviar with ice cream? Why not?!? Graham is a true visionary and the best host.
July 25 · Jerry ArguellesThe place is a little dark for me but I have an eye disease that makes everything darker or lighter than to other people. The food is incredible. We had the chive pancake and fish appetizer. I def recommend the chive pancake it was different and very tasty. For entrees we had Thai basil fried rice, pad thai, and Krakow beef. All were very delclicious and warning they are for real about their spice. But it tastes so good that you can't stop eating at least this describes the fried rice dish. We got the mango sticky rice dessert and that was also some of the best mango sticky rice I've ever had. The mango was fresh and rice warm and tasted like it was just freshly made.
