SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa Introduce
For New Yorkers who appreciate the art and simplicity of sushi, SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa is a destination that delivers on a promise of quality and tradition. Unlike many of the city's elaborate sushi temples, SUGARFISH has carved out a unique and celebrated niche by focusing on what truly matters: the fish. The restaurant operates on a philosophy of "Trust Me," a concept pioneered by Chef Kazunori Nozawa, which removes the guesswork from ordering and presents a curated, multi-course experience of impeccable sushi. This approach allows diners to simply sit back and "let the fish shine," as one enthusiastic reviewer put it.
The brand's success is built on a few core principles: warm, loosely-packed rice, impeccably fresh fish, and a minimalist presentation. The result is a dining experience that feels both authentic and modern. One customer's review perfectly captures the essence of a meal here, describing the sushi as "melt-in-your-mouth perfection" and the experience as "a sushi spa day for your taste buds." While some might mistake its focused menu for a lack of options, it is precisely this intentional simplicity that allows SUGARFISH to achieve its high standard of quality and consistency, making it a reliable and beloved spot for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic sushi experience without the fuss of a traditional omakase.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Sugarfish NYC is straight-up sushi heaven. We went with the Nozawa Trust Me because, well, when a sushi master says “trust me,” you shut up and listen. And damn, it did not disappoint. Every single piece was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The warm rice, the ridiculously fresh fish, the perfect pacing of the courses—it was like a sushi spa day for your taste buds.Highlights? The albacore with ponzu was silky magic, the salmon was buttery AF, and that toro? I’m pretty sure I saw a flash of God when I ate it. Even the simple hand rolls at the end were showstoppers—crispy seaweed, warm rice, and cool fish just doing the Lord’s work. The vibe is minimalist and chill, no soy sauce baths or wasabi smears here—just let the fish shine. It’s not cheap, but honestly, worth every damn penny. You’ll walk out feeling like you just made out with the ocean. Trust that.
April 16 · Adam JonesFood was decent but I felt like I was sitting in the middle of the staff’s hangout. I was seated at the bar, and while service was fine, employees kept coming over to chat with each other kind of awkward to watch. For food, I’d suggest the “Trust Me” set. I had the “Trust Me Lite,” and it wasn’t very filling.
August 11 · mé j.Iconic shaped nigiri is what this sushi restaurant is known for. I was pleasantly surprised when we asked if we could be seated with the baby they were enthusiastically able to make accommodations - 5 star service throughout. The ambiance is also quite nice - dimmed lights made for a moody eating experience. The restaurant itself is a bit tight on space (there is an upstairs area also) so you'll be sitting quite close to another party / table. The food is where I have a bit of a gripe about. Normally sushi is hard to f-up in NYC; it will typically be very good. But just something about the nigiri today was off! The sushi rice was just too vinegar-y. On top of that many pieces made too much use of ponzu which added a note of acidity that became a bit overwhelming with the rice. The fish itself was good and I thought the sesame salmon bite was exceptional. However, a bit more use of things like fresh wasabi would have been welcome in the actual nigiri itself.Overall, not bad! Glad I tried it out. And again, service is truly exceptional. Also cool that this is a no tipping restaurant and they (hopefully) pay their staff better wages and bake that into the menu price
April 14 · Saddmun AhsanReally high quality sushi for the price. Menu is always the same but understandable to keep price down. No tip necessary also
June 02 · Jack ZhangWe’ve been to SUGARFISH over dozen times and every time food was on point.Value is incredible for the price and quality of sushi. Rice is warm and made fresh for each course. They don’t take reservations but if you go off time, you can seated within reasonable time.Perfect for a quick lunch or dinner!
