When considering Tian Fu Lou, it’s important to manage expectations and appreciate it for what it is: a simple, convenient, and practical Chinese eatery in a high-traffic area of New York. It’s not a fine dining establishment, but rather a place that serves a clear purpose. For those working or shopping in Midtown, it provides a fast and easy option for a Chinese food fix without a long wait or a high price tag. Its location is a significant draw, making it a prime spot for a quick lunch break. The presence of a small, focused menu of comfort food ensures that you can get a familiar and satisfying meal without being overwhelmed by choices. The restaurant's appeal lies in its efficiency, with a simple dine-in or takeout model that caters to a busy clientele.
However, it is important for potential diners to be aware of the feedback from past customers. Reviews indicate that the food can be inconsistent, with some noting a lack of flavor in certain dishes, such as the beef stir-fried noodles, or that the buffet options are limited and the food not always served at the ideal temperature. While this is not an endorsement of those claims, it does highlight the fact that Tian Fu Lou is best suited for those looking for a straightforward, quick-service meal rather than an elevated culinary experience. Its value proposition is in its affordability and convenience. For a price point of around $45 for three plates and drinks, it's a budget-friendly option in an otherwise expensive neighborhood. It is the type of place you choose when you need a quick, no-frills meal and its location is the most important factor. The fact that it is good for kids and accepts reservations also makes it a viable option for families or small groups who need a simple, accessible place to eat without a lot of fuss.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Not great. Small buffet with limited options. The food was barely warm, and the veggie fried rice was bland. We got all three plates (only 2 entrees per plate) and 3 apple juices and a can of soda and spent $45 dollars. I've had better, cheaper asian food elsewhere. We ate it, but I would never go back and never recommend it.
March 20 · Nae AyalaIt looked really nice on the photo. However, it literally had no taste. I don't know what other menus taste like, but I don't recommend beef stir-fried noodles.
August 14 · 와조스키마이크One of my favorite places to eat for lunch. They have an above average menu and a pretty clean in store presentation for plating. The service is normally pretty decent although not exceptional all the time. They offer a buffet by the pound during the weekdays which is always pretty cool. I rarely have time to stay seeing as I go here during my lunch break. Pro tip! BRING CASH!
December 12 · angel rosarioI walked in on the fly because I noticed the $6.99 buffet sign in the window. As I sat down I'm told there is no buffet. So reluctantly I reviewed the menu and noticed that there was nothing less than $11.95. Already dissapointed and paying twice what I had expected to, I thought It a safe bet to order sessame chicken w/ white rice. I WAS WRONG. What was placed infront of me was sweet and sour checken mixed with sessame seeds. When I called them out on it they did nothing. So to summerize fasle advertising, over priced, horrible service, and worst Chinese food in NY.
November 27 · David Boylan 3RDThe food is good, the chicken fried rice is very good. I recommend this place.
