While the wait at Via Carota might be famous, the food is the reason it’s so consistently packed. What’s worth choosing here is not just a single dish, but an entire approach to dining. Start with a drink from their celebrated cocktail menu, especially one of the Negroni variations like the Via Carota Negroni Classico or the Via Carota Quasi Negroni. The reviews consistently highlight these as a delicious and authentic way to start your meal, transporting you to an Italian trattoria.
For appetizers (Spuntini & Antipasti), the Bruschetta Al Tartufo Nero and the Zucchini Fritti are highly recommended. A standout that reviewers rave about is the Grilled Artichoke, a seasonal item that has become a fan favorite. From the pasta section, the Pappardelle Al Cinghiale and the Stracci Al Tartufo Nero are must-tries, showcasing the restaurant’s dedication to fresh, handmade pasta and rich, flavorful sauces. While some may find certain dishes a bit salty, the quality of the ingredients and the overall flavor profiles are consistently excellent.
However, the true star of the show for many is the main course. The Stinco Di Maiale (pork shank) or the Branzino Al Sale (sea bass baked in salt) are exceptional choices for a more substantial meal. And of course, no meal at Via Carota is complete without dessert. The Tiramisu is widely considered one of the best in the city, providing a perfect, light, and delicious end to your dining experience. The Torta Al Cioccolato is also a rich and satisfying option.
Choosing Via Carota is choosing an experience. It’s a chance to savor authentic Italian cuisine in a lively, romantic, and quintessentially New York setting. The restaurant’s commitment to quality, its impeccable service, and its vibrant atmosphere make it a truly worthwhile destination, proving that the best things in life (and in New York City) are well worth the wait.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Worth the Wait – A Memorable Dining ExperienceIf you’re planning to visit Via Carota, be prepared to wait — it’s a popular spot and the wait time can be up to two hours. But let me tell you: it’s absolutely worth it.I started with one of their cocktails, and I was genuinely impressed — well-balanced, smooth, and crafted with care. For food, I ordered the charred pork belly with plums agrodolce and the octopus. The pork belly dish was the highlight: the sweetness of the plums paired with the char created an incredible balance of flavor that felt both refined and bold. Truly unforgettable. The octopus was flavorful as well — a bit overcooked in texture, but still enjoyable. The service was great, attentive but never rushed. If you’re looking for a quintessential New York dining experience with thoughtful dishes and a vibrant atmosphere, Via Carota is a must-visit. Just come with patience — the food makes the wait worth it.
August 05 · Eric VThis Italian classic in the city offers a fantastic menu, particularly their negroni-heavy cocktail menu. We tried the bicicletta and negroni 1397, both of which were delicious and transported us to an Italian trattoria. The grilled artichoke was an absolute must-try. I would go back just for that. The papardelle was good with a generous amount of parmigiano reggiano. The caccio e peppe was tasty, but it was a bit too salty. On the bright side, the tiramisu was one of the best in the city. Despite waiting 40 minutes on a Sunday afternoon, we highly recommend this restaurant.
May 21 · Gökay ZerenI could never find a reservation here but it was good to know to go right at opening time for lunch. We were a party of 4 and didn’t have to wait at all.The food definitely lived up to the hype. Everything we ordered was delicious and well made!We ordered a bunch of stuff to share and none of us had any complaints. The only thing I was surprised about was the size of my grilled octopus. It was the tiniest piece and barely big enough to be counted as an entree.Regardless, we all had a great time and would def be back
August 11 · Fiona DangI went there for dinner a few days ago, it was a great experience. They usually have limited reservations a month in advance and is mostly a walk in. I got there at 4, and the lady did not come out to officially start a line until around 4:20ish. Once they took my name at 5, I was seated 20-30 minutes later. If you arrive at 5 or later, you can expect to wait anywhere up to 2 hours, so I suggest arriving at 4:15. I sat outside and the atmosphere was great inside and outside the restaurant. I had the Tagliatelle which was very good and I also had the Meyer Lemon Risotto which was great. I had their lemonade for a beverage and it was delicious. I had the Tiramisu for dessert which was a great way to end the dinner. The waitress was very kind and attentive!
July 28 · JohnI walked in at 2:20 on a Thursday and they had no tables for the next two hours, but a 40 minute wait for the bar seating. They seated me by 2:50. I had an asparagus special, which was incredible. Cacio pepe, which was fine. And the cannolis for dessert, which were delicious. I wanted to eat about half the menu. Definitely, a place I'd come back to. It is expensive, but I think the quality is worth it.
