What is worth choosing
Choosing Yoshoku is an invitation to experience a unique blend of high-end Japanese cuisine and the luxurious atmosphere of the Waldorf Astoria. While customer reviews have raised significant concerns about the food's quality, the service, and the high price point, what makes the restaurant worth considering is its exclusive setting and prestige. The main draw is undoubtedly the location within the iconic hotel. The newly renovated lobby provides a sterile but impressive backdrop for a sophisticated meal. This is a place you choose for the special occasion and the elegant atmosphere rather than for a casual or quick meal. The overall experience of dining in a landmark hotel is a significant factor, and for some, that experience alone may justify the visit.
It is important to note the specific feedback from customers to set expectations. The reviews point to issues with the food, such as the bland flavor of the sushi rice, the "chewy" texture of the tuna, and a general lack of a "wow" factor in a 13-course tasting menu. The service has also been described as slow and at times "combative." Given the competitive landscape of New York City's dining scene, with countless outstanding sushi restaurants at various price points, these are significant critiques. However, for a tourist staying at the Waldorf Astoria or a local looking for an intimate, quiet, and exclusive spot to have a drink and a small plate, the restaurant's atmosphere and convenience may be its key selling points. The stunning lobby setting, coupled with the prestige of the hotel, provides a memorable backdrop for a special evening, even if the food may not be the primary highlight. In a city where outstanding food is readily available, Yoshoku sells an experience: one of luxury, elegance, and exclusivity. For those seeking that specific atmosphere, it may be a worthwhile visit.

Yoshoku Reviews
Our meal was easily the worst sushi we have ever had. It is also amount the most expensive sushi we have ever had. The combination was a disaster. We were excited to visit the newly renovated Waldorf+Astoria. The hotel lobby is impressive albeit a bit sterile. The sushi restaurant is located near the Park Avenue entrance. It is more of a lobby lounge than a traditional Japanese restaurant. The service was friendly but SLOW! The lounge was essentially empty (there were two other parties) but it took forever for our server to engage with us. And then it took forever in between visits to our table. In fact, it took 19 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. The service never got better. The sushi is expensive. The quality of the fish was not commensurate with being a high-end sushi restaurant. The tuna (medium fatty) was chewy and full of connective fiber. The salmon was better but we have had more flavorful sushi from our local grocery store. The rice had no flavor and added nothing to the individual pieces. In a town with many outstanding sushi restaurants there is little hope that this restaurant will stay in business.
August 18 · Paul JohnsonDinner we had the choose the 13-course. The food wasn't that good, not one dish wowed me, every dish was mediocre. They did not have the first two bottles of sake that we ordered. Our waiter was combative, not friendly, he seemed like he had an attitude the entire time. We had a horrible time here, I would not recommend this restaurant.
