Big Tony's Pizza & Pasta Reviews
Wife had an hour-long medical test, and I was hungry, and unfamiliar with the area, I asked the receptionist where to eat. My intentions were the Chinese place next door, but being two days after Easter, my brain saw this shop's sign and my belly said, "No...pizza."My family has ran pizza shops in WNY since before I was born, so I've always been critical of "Columbus pizza" since I came here 1993.My standard preview of a new pizza shop is always sausage-pep-mushroom. Neither the pepperoni nor sausage were overly spicy, but both were flavorful. I prefer canned mushroom to fresh, but only because they tend to wilt in oven heat. There were plenty of toppings for all three though.Cheese was a nice blend. Matched expectations of their stated menu description. Didn't taste "plasticky" like many chain shops tend to taste. The crust is a bit thicker than the usual Donato's clones that are around (in fact, on the corner of the strip), and while it is a conveyor oven pizza rather than deck oven, it at least doesn't have all that gravelly cornmeal. After her procedure, I managed to save a few slices for my wife. She commented that the sauce was a little sweeter than expected, but the crust was not, and decently salted, so it balanced out.The very friendly guy at the register stated the place was under new management "within the last week". He said not much has been changed, but he thinks their pizza is better than the Donato's on the corner.I have to agree.Other than the conveyor nit-pick, my only main comment: your banner and menu show triangle slices. Stand out against your competitors and cut the pizza properly... squares are for the Donato's clones.I'm not from this area of town, but if I am around there in the future near mealtime, I'm 100% stopping by. (Wife is a huge calzone fan and after the pizza is eager to try.)BONUS: the ultimate test of good pizza is leftovers. Had the center four slices yesterday for lunch out of our toaster oven. Perfect.
Apr 24, 2025 · Anthony CuttittaThis review is NOT an attack! Big Tony's is a BIG disappointment! I apologize in advance to the owner and employees for this review. However, without constructive critics, how can you grow? As a Columbus native, I always want to support local, mom/pop restaurants and especially pizzeria's. I was eager to try Big Tony's and ordered a large sausage and pepperoni. What I received was a poor quality pie that seemed to lack pride in the product. The crust was stale, the toppings were probably the worst that I've ever had on a pizza. For the price, you DEFINITELY must do better! I want to support you again. I'm trusting that this was a exception and not the normal. The pizza sauce taste strange. The sausage seems cheap, overcooked, and was shriveled. The pepperoni... No comment. Not trying to run your business just trying to help. Although it may not seem like it, I AM rooting for you as a small business. Please present to your customers a better product.
Nov 24, 2024 · Ira DanielsWhen I moved to Columbus 3 years ago I tried this place and wasn't impressed. Today I got the $5.99 2 Cheese slice and Can of Soda. Very good. They don't give you pizza that has been sitting for an hour....made it fresh. Very good. Only thing would make it better is a little more sauce. Thank you....very good deal.
Mar 18, 2025 · Robert BrubakerThe pizza here is very economical and you will be able to tell in the flavor. Almost certainly frozen crust, sauce straight from the can with no seasoning, and the cheapest mozzarella available. It will probably last here since it's a more affordable option just down the way from Donato's, but if you're looking for quality, save your time and money. Seems like a one or two person show and the service was pretty non-existent. Be there in a sec and what can I get you. Nothing warm about it. I've had warmer service at pizza joints in NY and NJ. The offset entrance makes you feel like you aren't walking into the right restaurant.
May 10, 2025 · Shannon PaigeNo napkins given. Attitude when I didnt get my drink for the lunch special. Lunch special is cheap $6.99 for two pepperoni slices and a 12 Fl of coke products. Pizza has a garlic crust extra cheese & not enough sauce. Thin crust does go crazy.
