Its rich, aromatic broth is a testament to the care and tradition that goes into each bowl, providing a deeply satisfying and comforting experience that is hard to find elsewhere. The Banh Mi is another standout, praised for its perfectly soft baguette that complements the savory fillings without being tough or scratchy.

The fast service means you can get a delicious meal without a long wait, making it perfect for a quick lunch break or a pre-theater dinner. For example, a server patiently explaining how to enjoy the iced coffee is a small gesture that leaves a lasting positive impression.
Furthermore, the value you get for your money at Phở Bằng is excellent. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for a Manhattan restaurant. This makes it an accessible option for students, families, and anyone on a budget who doesn't want to compromise on quality or flavor. The variety of offerings, from a full meal to a quick bite or small plate, along with options for healthy eaters and comfort food lovers, means everyone in a group can find something they love.
Lastly, supporting a local, family-run business is a choice that many New Yorkers value. Phở Bằng’s dedication to their craft and their community shines through in their food and service, making it a place you can feel good about supporting. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Yes, this spot has a C rating, but honestly every time my friend and I have come, we’ve never seen any bugs—and let’s be real, it’s the LES, so that’s not uncommon anywhere. We’re definitely going to keep coming back. The food is amazing! My friend and I are obsessed with the pho, and I personally love the pork banh mi—the baguette is perfect: soft enough that it doesn’t scrape the roof of your mouth like others do. I recently tried the iced coffee, and our server was so kind in showing us how to properly mix and pour it, which made the experience even better. We also really love the origin story behind this restaurant and supporting family-run businesses, which makes us want to root for them even more. Ending our meal with a pot of tea has become a little tradition, and we always finish every last drop. We truly hope this place continues to improve and thrive because we want to keep bringing all our friends here!
August 20 · Zoe OsborneThe food isn’t anything to rave about. It’s decent at best. Or maybe I just came on the wrong day. It was a Sunday afternoon with not many patrons. As we entered we were greeted promptly and seated . They do need to work on training their staff instead of yelling and demanding the waitress. We found that pretty rude. The waitress was nice. The food came out on time. The summer rolls were okay. The pork in the summer rolls tasted a bit odd. The shrimp in the summer rolls were good. Also ordered the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork. It’s what I usually get at Vietnamese restaurants. Wasn’t blown away by the taste. The portion sizes on all dishes were great. But the flavor lacked on all the dishes. What disappointed the most were the fried spring rolls. They tasted super stale. My girlfriend got a seafood soup dish with noodles that she seems to enjoy, but she did mention the broth was pretty bland.Overall we had a decent experience. Nothing to rave about. We left with full tummies , but disappointed in the lack of flavors in the dishes.Staff was nice (except for the management yelling at the waitress in front of patrons) , interior is what’s expected for a hole in the wall.Probably wouldn’t come back here with there being much better options in the area.
September 01 · Dwight KennethIt's been several years since I've been back and after today, might be several more (if ever). Sorry, the food was just very underwhelming... Pho broth was bland; the spring rolls were also tasteless with the skin too thick. Waitress was nice and attentive, as was the older gentlemen. Place was pretty empty at lunch time, which should mostly tell you everything you need to know. Too many options in the area, I wish them luck...
March 11 · S. ChanThat’s exactly taste of Pho in District 5 - Vietnam. I came back 2 times
August 10 · Nguyen The KienA roach crawled across the table during my meal. I called the waitress over and she killed it with her hand, smiled, said “sorry” and walked away. I wondered if she told the older gentleman who appeared to be in charge. When I asked, another employee came to me and said they recently exterminated and this is causing the roaches to come out. I let him know that this was unacceptable. Despite this, I was still charged full price. This seems to be a normal occurrence at this place. Will never return. Upon further review, I see that their roach problem is a recurring issue. Disgusting. Unsanitary. Will be reporting to health department.
