Shiki Omakase Introduce
In the world of New York City's dining scene, few experiences are as celebrated as omakase, a Japanese tradition where the chef curates a multi-course tasting menu. Shiki Omakase has carved out a special niche in this category, offering a high-quality, intimate, and surprisingly accessible omakase experience. Located on West Houston Street, this small and serene sushi bar stands out for its commitment to both culinary artistry and value. It's the kind of place that transforms a meal into a performance, with a kind and incredible chef at the helm, taking the time to "make sure every plate was perfect."
Shiki Omakase is more than just a restaurant; it's a sensory journey. The interior is designed with a "simple and clean" aesthetic, creating a calming and focused ambiance where the food is the star of the show. With a cozy, trendy vibe and a playlist of "chill music," the atmosphere is perfectly set for a focused and relaxing dining experience. Guests consistently praise the service, noting that the staff is attentive and warm from start to finish. This blend of exceptional food, masterful craftsmanship, and welcoming hospitality makes Shiki Omakase a highly recommended destination for both seasoned omakase enthusiasts and newcomers looking for a fantastic first experience.
Shiki Omakase is located at 71 W Houston St, New York, NY 10012, USA. This prime address places it on the border of several of Manhattan’s most vibrant neighborhoods, including SoHo and NoHo. The location is easily accessible by public transportation, with the Broadway-Lafayette Street station (B, D, F, M lines) and the Bleecker Street station (6 line) both within a short walking distance. This makes it a convenient and desirable destination for diners from all over the city.
While the restaurant is a small and intimate space, its central location and easy access to public transit add to its appeal. The focus on a sit-down, dine-in experience means that the primary purpose is to provide a serene environment for the omakase meal. Its exclusivity and small size are part of its charm, contributing to the feeling of a personalized and special experience. The restaurant's policy of requiring reservations is a testament to its popularity and the value of planning ahead for this sought-after experience.

At Shiki Omakase, the beauty lies in letting the chef guide your journey. The menu is a pre-set omakase, a carefully curated selection of the day's freshest ingredients. The core menu, which is listed for the 12-piece omakase, provides a fantastic introduction to the chef's style and the quality of the fish. Favorites from this menu include the rich and flavorful O'toro with Sturgeon Caviar and the unique Sea Urchin Uni with Truffle. These two pieces showcase the chef’s ability to combine high-end ingredients with classic sushi for an elevated and unforgettable bite. The Kumamoto Oyster is also a great starter, and the classic Hamachi (Yellowtail) and Sake (Salmon) are always fresh and delicious.
For those looking for a more extensive experience, Shiki also offers a 17-piece omakase option that includes even more variety, such as Wagyu beef. It's a great way to explore the full range of the chef's offerings. The a la carte options, which are often presented on an iPad halfway through the meal, allow you to add on some extra pieces of your favorites. This can be a great way to indulge in more of the unique offerings, such as the Albacore Tuna with its delicate flavor and beautiful presentation. The beverage menu, though not extensive, offers a selection of beer, hard liquor, and wine that can be paired with the courses to enhance the overall experience.
While one review mentioned that the experience can feel a bit rushed to accommodate the next seating, this is a common trait of more affordable omakase spots in NYC. However, for the price point, the quality of the food and the level of service are considered exceptional. The dishes are "tasty and gorgeous," and the overall experience is a "big bang for your buck." The combination of fresh, high-quality ingredients with the chef's artistry makes every single piece a moment to savor. It's a culinary journey that is both educational and deeply satisfying, and a fantastic choice for anyone in New York looking for an authentic and high-quality Japanese dining experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Amazing service from start to finish everything was so fresh and art fully crafted, the chef truly took his time to make sure every plate was perfect. Came here for my birthday & had an amazing 17 course omakase. 10/10 would recommend.
May 07 · MiaCame here with my dad for his first omakase experience - made a reservation for 7 but showed up around 6:30 and were seated immediately! We had so much fun here! The hostess was kind and the chef preparing our food was kind and incredible at his craft. Our water cups were always filled which is always a nice touch. It’s really simple and clean inside with chill music which added to the ambiance. The plates were tasty and gorgeous!
August 01 · Lily RosenblumEverything at Shiki Omakase is excellent. The fish is fresh, the execution is precise, and the experience is consistently high quality. I truly don’t understand the negative reviews. I’ve eaten at many high-end sushi spots, and Shiki stands strong among them in terms of quality. Some people seem to judge the sushi based on how much the chef interacts with them. Really? It’s a sushi counter, not a Broadway show. The chef is there to prepare your food, not to entertain you. If you’re looking for a performance, try a comedy club or a strip club. The chefs at Shiki are kind, respectful, and yes, they do talk to you. But they also understand that this is your dinner, not an interview. They focus on giving you a great meal and a calm, elevated experience. If you’re looking for top-quality sushi at a fair price, come here. It’s absolutely worth it.
June 03 · Z KPretty good sushi course menu with a lot of the favorites - think of this place as a dependable but ultimately affordable neighborhood sushi spot. They have a bunch of specials they offer at the end so you may want to save some space.
May 08 · Rovik RobertExtremely friendly, kind and helpful staff. Came without a reservation and seated immediately. Got the 17 pieces, fall special and winter special and the yuzu sake. Enjoyed everything that I had. All of the seafood was fresh and clean. The music was lovely and added to the atmosphere. The timing you get the rolls and the explanations from the chef gave a amazing vibe. Everything was so good I don't know what tops are, but the add on I would suggest is the winter special that piece was mind blowing. 10/10
