SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa Introduce
New York City's dining scene is a world unto itself, and when it comes to sushi, the options are seemingly endless. However, for those in the know, a few places rise above the rest, offering a unique and consistently excellent experience. SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa is one such establishment. This restaurant has brought its acclaimed, no-frills, high-quality approach to sushi from the West Coast to the heart of Manhattan. It's a place that redefines the sushi experience, focusing on simplicity, freshness, and the masterful technique of its founder, Chef Kazunori Nozawa.
The philosophy at SUGARFISH is based on a concept of "Don't Think. Just Eat." It's an invitation to trust the chef's expertise and enjoy a perfectly curated meal without the typical decision-making process. The restaurant itself has a clean, modern vibe that complements this approach. The atmosphere is casual yet trendy, and the service is known for being fast and attentive. While there may often be a wait, it’s a testament to the restaurant’s popularity and the high-quality food that draws a loyal crowd. The minimalist decor allows the focus to remain squarely on the food, from the warm, perfectly seasoned rice to the melt-in-your-mouth fish.
SUGARFISH is a favorite for lunch and dinner, especially for solo diners looking for an efficient and exquisite meal. It’s also a perfect spot for those new to sushi or those who want a reliable, top-tier experience without the formalities of a high-end omakase bar. While it caters to tourists given its Midtown location, it has also garnered a following among New Yorkers who appreciate its consistent quality and unique style. It's a prime example of a restaurant that does a few things exceptionally well, rather than trying to do everything at once.
SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa is located at 210 W 56th St, New York, NY 10019, USA. Its prime spot in Midtown West places it in a bustling area, a short walk from Broadway shows, Central Park, and the bustling energy of Times Square. The restaurant is easily accessible by public transportation, with the 57th Street stop on the N, Q, R, and W lines being the closest subway station.
The restaurant is designed to be welcoming to all patrons, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance. Parking in the area can be challenging, but there are paid street parking and paid parking garages available nearby for those who choose to drive. The restaurant does not accept reservations, operating on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's a good idea to plan ahead, especially during peak dining hours when a wait is to be expected.

For first-time visitors to SUGARFISH, the "Trust Me" menus are, without a doubt, the best way to experience the restaurant. The To-Go Trust Me is a great entry point, offering a perfect mix of rolls, sashimi, and nigiri. For a more comprehensive experience, the Nozawa Trust Me provides a more extensive selection, including a special daily item. For the most complete tasting, the Don't Think Just Eat Togo is the ultimate choice.
If you prefer to order a la carte, the Blue and Dungeness Crab Cut Roll and the Japanese Yellowtail Cut Roll are customer favorites. The nigiri sushi options are also excellent, with the Bluefin Otoro Sushi being a special treat for those who appreciate a rich, fatty cut of fish. The Hokkaido Sea Scallops Sushi is also highly recommended for its delicate flavor. For a simple but delicious start, the Organic Edamame is a perfect appetizer.
While the menu is focused on traditional sushi and avoids modern, saucy rolls, the quality of the ingredients and the precision of the preparation speak for themselves. The emphasis on high-quality fish and the unique warm rice technique create a truly exceptional dining experience. SUGARFISH is not just a place for a meal; it's a destination for anyone in New York seeking to appreciate the art of sushi at its finest.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely loved my experience at Sugarfish! The sushi was incredibly fresh and prepared with so much care. Every bite just melted in my mouth. The “Trust Me” menu is a must-try if you want the perfect mix of rolls, sashimi, and nigiri. Service was warm and attentive, and everything came out beautifully timed. The restaurant itself has a clean, modern vibe that makes the whole experience even better. Definitely one of the best sushi spots I’ve been to. Can’t wait to come back!
August 16 · Kaylah CarruthersEvery bite of sushi was tender and flavorful, with the exception of the shrimp, which was a bit tougher than I’d like. The flavors overall were fresh and well-balanced. One downside is they don’t offer gluten-free soy sauce. Still, the quality of the sushi will bring me back for more fishy goodness.
June 15 · Hit ListWe spent 3 weeks in Japan this year and I think this has to be the best sushi restaurant in the world. Delicious, fresh and crisp hand rolls + nigiri. Amazing service and NO TIPPING allowed. Thank you for paying your staff appropriately! What a place!
August 07 · Brandon NguyenThis sushi chain is amazing. We love this location in particular and will always stop either before or after a show at the Carnegie Hall. The sushi is so fresh and melts in your month. The selection of add-ons are always great. The staff is friendly and attentive. Prices for Sugarfish is very comparison to other spots in the city. No need to put tips here because they pay their employees adequately.
May 27 · Xin3 out of 5 starsVisited SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa today -- a spot we've been to many times, both at this location and others across NYC. The restaurant was full and had the expected modern, casual vibe. It was somewhat clean, though the service felt stretched thin for the number of tables. That said, our server was friendly and accommodating. We ordered "The Nozawa Trust Me" menu ($59) plus a Kampachi nigiri. As usual, the meal was well-paced and curated. The Salmon Sushi and Bluefin Otoro were excellent, but a few other pieces felt less fresh, with firmer textures that stood out in a not-so-great way. The ginger didn't seem fresh, and the hand rolls -- usually a highlight -- were disappointing this time. Kampachi, especially at the added price, was underwhelming. The portion sizes are reasonable, but the prices continue to creep up over time. While still a fine value for streamlined sushi, it's starting to feel less compelling. Overall, it remains a clean, approachable experience for those looking for consistency -- though it lacks the nuance and personalization of traditional omakase-style dining.
