★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Ambiance (4/5): This is a classic Japanese ramen shop feel—tight high top bar seating that overlooks the kitchen. There are a few tables on the side as well. It was cool seeing the solo chef prepare all the moving parts. Sadly, I did not feel like the seating was very comfortable, as the bottom part moved around on its own and there is no backing.Service (5/5): Came in on a Friday afternoon and there was only 2 or 3 other solo patrons so I was attended to throughout my experience.Toriburo Spicy (3/5): The noodles were a bit on the undercooked side so a little more chewy (which I like/prefer!) I like the homemade spicy paste that gave the dish another level of flavor! For the price point, I was definitely hoping that the pork charsiu piece would be a little more generous in portion size—however it’s really only 2 small slices. The flavor was there and a good blend of meat to fat ratio but just really to meager. The dish also does not come with any egg. I think I was hoping for a bit more flavor in the broth to wow me but it’s admittedly hard to compare paitan to tonkontsu.Happy Hour pricing Monday to Friday 12-6:30pm during the summer looks like $3-4 discounts off beers/sake!
July 01 · Steph WPretty good ramen, and a decent spicy sauce. Not outstanding, but definitely worth checking. Pretty small place, just two tables and bar stools.
August 20 · Dariusz Jemielniak (Pundit)It is a tight dim light mid basement type space. The ambience is not up to par but the food is good. The chicken paitan broth has a very subtle and soothing taste. The noodles are cooked slightly raw which I like. Over all taste is good but the ramen could have had more default veggies in it like the way it is elsewhere usually. The quantity is quite less than usual.A good spot in the area overall.
June 03 · Bhakti DalviThis place really transports! The interior is small and very similar to ramen shops you’d find in Japan.Menu is straight to the point and offers a quality selection of assorted broths. Their inhouse char-shiu chicken/pork is really tasty. They also have a “add rice + topping” to finish off your soup once you finish your noodles (genius!)Happy hour prices looked super reasonable and will definitely try to stop by again
June 01 · Daniel LeePlease, for your own sake, please avoid. Your $15/$30 are much better spent elsewhere. Surprise your mom with it, or donate it to charity or something, you’d get more enjoyment from that.I don’t usually review places but I had to for this one, just to let people know. I have no idea how this place got as highly reviewed as it did. This is both one of the worst ramens I’ve had and also one of the worst dining experiences. The broth did not have much flavor (and not just because it’s chicken paitan, I’ve had good chicken broth, give Susuru a try). The noodles were just normal, okay. The 2 thin pieces of pork char siu were also just normal, average at best. The service was extremely slow. I sat down at 2:57PM, and just sat there staring into space until 3:17PM when someone remembered to take my order. I received my food at 3:37PM. I also had to ask for water myself, and it’s not like the place was busy (just around 4-5 pairs).Oh, and the atmosphere. It’s in the basement, very small and tight. It’s typical of ramen restaurants in Japan, so I won’t fault that. But my stool was so loose that I almost fell twice. It’s like I had to balance myself as I was sitting. My leg was falling sleep halfway through the meal. Please, for the love of God, save your money. Go across the street and get yourself an earl grey cream puff from Bibble & Sip or something with this money instead. You’ll thank me later.
